Situated on the North Devon coast, this historic country manor house is grade 2 listed with 12th century origins. After decades of steady decline caused by its aggressive coastal location and a damaging post-war conversion into a hotel, the manor house and grounds have undergone an extensive programme of conservation, restoration and renewal, returning the 3000 sq.m property to a family home.
Spiller worked closely with Turnstyle Design, a high quality ironmongery manufacturer and Witcher Crawford Architects to create a bespoke lever handle and ironmongery package. With many original doors retained and restored this created its own challenges; the importance of lock cases and furniture that not only met with the clients security requirements but complemented the historic timber sections was paramount. With access to a wide range of manufacturers such as Union, Frank Allart & Quality Locks, Spiller were able to offer an impeccable service and ensure there was a solution for all applications.
The door furniture was chosen to enhance the unique nature of this project, a traditional style of furniture design that met with the design brief to retain and improve on the historic features of the building was required.
Spillers fully qualified ironmongery specialists completed a full survey of the existing doors and windows in order to create a detailed ironmongery specification. Where refurbishment of existing locks or window furniture was required this was dealt with by Spiller’s experienced locksmiths department to restore the items back to their former glory.
